Good Business Practices
If you agree with our mindset, a real estate agent is essentially a small business owner, so it makes sense for you to be considering subjects such as time management, accountability, business plans and personnel to run your business more effectively. Mastering and understanding these concepts can mean the difference between success and failure as a business owner (and therefore real estate agent.)
As a small business owner, you wear many hats: owner and CEO of your own business, sales person, director of marketing and public relations, customer service manager, human resources and accounting rep, a bit of a psychologist (to understand your leads mentality), an IT rep, an educator and even detective.
You need to be able to build a business plan and budget effectively. You need the people skills to handle any personnel you may have to hire, as well as the skills to read a person, gauge their reaction to something, and respond accordingly. Sometimes these things come naturally to a person, sometimes they don’t. The important thing is that you recognize that the success or failure of your business depends on the work your willing to put into it and yourself, to be the best small business owner you can be.
Nobody has all the answers, and nobody is a genius at every single category mentioned above. But if you KNOW you’re weak in areas, do something about it! Educate yourself, take a course, read a book, do what it takes to be the best you can be in every field you have to deal with – your livelihood depends on it!
