Self-Education
Although much of the Agent Success Center is based on personal experiences by the owners GetMyHomesValue.com, much of what we discuss you could have learned eventually by doing your own research: client research, Internet research, research at the library, etc. We made it easier by compiling it in one place to save you time – because we know time means money.
But it brings up an important idea for the small business owner – that of self-education. Sure you took classes to learn real estate law and get your license, but how did you learn to market yourself? How did you learn to convert leads to clients, to read prospects, to figure out what information to send a buyer lead versus a seller lead? Most likely it was a combination of research, learning from a mentor and trial and error.
The answers won’t always be readily available, sometimes you’ll have to come up with your own. And that is where the Internet is SO important. There is so much info to be found on the world wide web that it can take a while to find the specific topic you’re looking for, but it’s OUT THERE. You just need to set aside time to do the research on whatever topic you want to learn more about.
For example, if our search engine optimization piece wasn’t in-depth enough for you, go to Google.com, search for SEO and start reading! If you don’t know the local business hot spots in your area that you may want to team up with for a monthly newsletter, do a search online! If you don’t know how to put together a mini-CMA in 10 minutes time for your leads – do a search on the Internet. Actually, scratch that, check out our tutorial section to see how that’s done, but you get the point.
There are very few questions out there the Internet doesn’t have answer for. Don’t be too lazy to search out the local news and events online to add to your newsletter. Don’t be too scared to use sites like Trulia or Zillow to get information to send your leads. And don’t be too stupid to research best selling real estate books to find the best one before going out and dropping a fortune on books that may not help you.
Whether you agree or not, you’ve got it easier now than agents did 15 years ago. You’ve got so much information at your fingertips, there’s really no excuse as to why you can’t arm yourself with the knowledge necessary to be successful at any venture, real estate or no. Don’t be too lazy, scared or stupid to take advantage of it and use it to make your business as successful as you want it to be.
